Just a little introduction to get this blog started. I’m Andrew, a 23-year-old fifth-year student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. This is the first blog I’ve ever attempted, and I’m doing so for a journalism course called Writing for the Web.
I first started in the journalism field in high school with an internship at a local paper (the Vineyard Gazette), and as the editor of the high school paper, “The High School View,” which was published as a part of the Martha’s Vineyard Times. These two papers compete for the readership of the island of Martha’s Vineyard, home of the rich and famous (at least in the summer) and those who serve them (everyone who actually lives there year-round). Since those days, I’ve freelanced a little for the Vineyard Gazette and the Boston Globe, and founded a magazine with a friend which never got off the ground because of funding issues (read: I’m a poor college student).
Currently, I’ve returned to UMass Amherst after taking some time off, but this time around I’m married and less financially stable. It’s going to be a blast.
